I used to work in many interesting places in London, learning new skills not at all connected with my university education or former profession.
I have never been unemployed except short period of time which I spent in Japan.
It is not so easy to find desk job here but I found it.
I found it in company which manufactures windows and doors.

My job is mainly to handle clients, to deal with their orders, answer technical questions, answer to complaints and show high level of professionalism in window industry in general.

It really helps that once I used to be a teacher…because I must explain so many things to so many people every day.
It includes clients and their architects and builders.
By studying hard and working hard I gained enough knowledge to feel pretty confident in my role.
Strangely enough, I am not a person who likes to deal with people.
I am not sociable and it was very difficult to me to change my attitude and to stop being shy and reserved.
There are people from so many different cultures living in London.
To sell one must adjust selling way to client’s “style” and character.
Some clients are truly difficult, they can call even during holidays or late in evening.
Because my basic salary in not very high and because actually I depend on commission from sales to make ends meet, I often work during weekends, from home.
I am not paid for this extra working time but if I want to earn decent money, I have no choice.
People are more careful with their spending now so we have less enquiries from individual clients.
And I deal mostly with independent clients so it may affect me a lot in the future.
I’ve already started to cut my expenses and economise.
Perhaps it would be wise to learn new skills to be more flexible and if necessary, to find new job.
